Posing practice - Romancing the Stone

I just read through some notes from animation class, and there it said 'romancing the stone - you must watch it again, mandatory'. So i quickly copied some expressions i liked, and i'll watch it later :)

Love it when they dance - Blocking

I've been working that shot some time ago. Now i could see it with new eyes and i re timed and tweaked the poses. hope i can finish it up soon.

Website transition to Wordpress

I was surprised how easy it is to figure out Wordpress. Rebuilt my Website to avoid Wix prices and to make updates easier. Now I just need to get Wordpress to run on my Server

Angents Secret

I decided pretty late to to the 11secondclub of november, so I coudn't really work on the polish. But good planning helped me to get that far in less than 2 days. I'll wait how it's received then I might polish.

Agents Secret - Planning

Well, 11secondclub deadline is tomorrow, but I just started thumbnailing and planning. Either I work nonstop to submit it, or it will be another workflow practice.

Expressions Practice Tangled

Working on facial expressions: I tried to match the Tagled drawings with Malcolm. I love the exaggeration and asymmetry on their expression sheets.

QuickPractice..Fish Boy Interrogation

Winter breaks gives me a lot of free time to watch tutorials and improve my performance skills. I'm planning to animate a 3 second shot every other day ( not necessary polish) so I strengthen my workflow.

Freezer burn Background Tests

Painting background for my film. I enjoy having so much control over the look and getting away from Maya. The animation is done (with some tweaks if I have time..), and I can't wait to put it all together! only 20 days left to go..

Business Card Design

Unifying design of website, resume, and business cards. I decided to stay away from characters or colors that might annoy me soon.

Animating for 'Consume What'

One of three shot's I'm animating for Aditys senior film 'Consmue what'. Animating cereal boxes was a nice change and a lot of fun!

New Website

monikagelbmann.com

For Professional development class at SCAD I was required to re-create my website according to the instructors guides. The sited definitely got more organized but I'm not happy about the Wix commercials. I plan to redo and code it by myself in Winter break.

Rendering out some animtion

I discovered Renderman. It gave me really fast decent rendering results. I'm currently exploring the power of it and I'm really excited.

12 Steps Shot

A shot I animated for Kori Amackers film 12 Steps earlier this year

Freezerburn Animation Progress

For the beginning of the last Senior class at SCAD I rendered new Playblasts showing my animation progress. So far I did the whole production by myself and it was a valuable experience. I also have good ideas for textures and lighting and I'm excited. But first there is a lot of animation to do :)

SCADamimate

My Monsterfactory Short as opening for this years SCADanimate :))

Business Card Designs

New designs for business cards and paperwork. I first started out using characters I designed. Even though I  like them now, I felt I might be annoyed with them in a few months. So I went for creating a logo. A friend asked me what I love, and I said apples. So now my logo looks like a apple. I think it looks funny, and I love green and apples :D

No Ebb's allowed..

The new quarter has started and I haven't even posted the work I did for my Summer finals. This will be my last full quarter at SCAD, so my Senior film is in full Animation/Render production. Updates will come soon. Here's the final Dialogue piece for Character II course.

Adjusting the Tod model for Snowflake characters. No sure about the head and hair yet

First Texture test for Tod

First tests with Toonshader, using 2 shells for the reflections. I'm surprised how fast and easy I got this crystal effect :)

Freezerburn: New Previz with character

New Previz with Fostflake character and, mostly, final models. The storytelling, camera and pacing has changed and hopefully much improved. It was well received by my Senior class.  Also, a new Title - Freezerburn. It's not Frozen, but I'm starting to like it :)

Bad question for a date :)

Standing Freezer and Frozen Food

After several people mentioned that my freezer is confusing for Americans, I remodeled it to a standing one. And some frozen food

Tod Rigged and first pose tests :)

I'm so excited. I tried really hard to break the Rig but I almost couldn't!! I guess I didn't do too bad for my first Rigging experience :) Can't wait to animate!

No more Frozen...Changing Name

So, Disney calls it's new feature film Frozen. What a unfortunate coincidence..I really liked the title. Well, I hope a name pops up while working on it. I'll still go and see Dinsey's Frozen :)

Frozen: New previz for beginning of senior1

The story arch has improved with Tod opening the window by himself. I'm waiting for some more critique and also have a long list with camera fixes.

Frozen: Freezer Model

After several days sick in bed, finally back to work. Two more days break, then back to Savannah and a productive work environment :)

Frozen: Hand and Broccoli Model

The hand was a easy process, thanks to the clear model sheet. I still have to add nails (or paint them on) For the broccoli, I first tried different attempts in Maya. Then I decided to fresh up my Zbrush skills and was able to get a much faster and better results. Only the UVs and Displacement export didn't yet work quite as I want it.

Frozen: Previz End of Spring Quarter

Final preViz for Frozen I turned in for Concept Development. I'm still not satisfied with the ending but I have an idea on how to get a better climax. The problem is that I have to add shots, and the story gets more complicated and even longer. My original plan was to keep it under 45 seconds. Well, now I'm more than 1:30.. I like the theme but it's hard to shorten the storyline I am working with.

Lama Criminal

Thanks to the remote Renderfarm access  - a rendered version my final animation for 3d Character 3. I don't know why I had so much troubles rendering (i guess it's the break and working on my Austrian computer). I also rendered about eight passes and composted in Nuke, forcing myself to get more practice and get faster :)

Fried Fish: Final Render for DVD Turn In

Here's the final render for my 3D Production class. I adjusted Maya's Toonshader with custom painted textures. I got the stroke effect with aquarell brushes I downloaded. To get more interest in the light and shadow areas I made 3 hues for each object, ranging from warm to cool. I am pretty pleased with the shading and lighting. The biggest time saver was the Render Farm, omg I love it!! : ) My biggest issue is that I feel the animation needs another clean up pass to put it on my reel, but that means I would also have to re-render :/

Lonely Chair

A chair who got stored away in a dull attic discovers a companion and ways to while away his time.

A 30 second short done in a speed production of less than two days ( rigs and majority of models were prepared beforehand).  I was animating only for a few ours - like on steroids - and wish I could have spent more time, cause I was really looking forward to animate this chair one day. But even though its just a  splined blocking stage I feel the story reads clear.

Frozen: PreViz and changing story..

Here's the PreViz I finished yesterday. I feel it took the visual to realize that there needs to be more conflict/climax. So after getting suggestions from professors, I rewrote my story and plan on getting my new Previz ready today. Big plans, but I'm excited :)

Frozen: Model Sheets

He looks like a Ted :) I still want to find a way to make him look different from the other frostflakes in the freezer

Senior film progress: Mood Boards

Senior Film, Snowflakes Dream?

Not sure about the title yet... But I've been working hard on the story (and other stuff). That's why I haven't updated this page for so long. I hope I will update more frequently to keep track of my progress and collect inspiration.
Anyway, here is the logline:
A snowflake that want’s more than falling like all the others gets the opportunity to enter a different world. With the help of a stranger, he overcomes his fear of the unknown and gets the courage follow his heart.

Intimidating

3D Character Animation 3, 2 Shot Assignment. Got my critique and need to get in the notes and remove some floatiness.

Fried Fish, A 15 Second Short

This is the 15 second short for my 3d Animation Production Class at SCAD. I'm tying to keep track of my production process so I hope I will update this post frequently. This is the PreViz. I'm working on Blocking 1 and Modelling right now.

Alright, is the final animation and modelling stage for my 3D Production class. Deadline was midterms, so I couldn't clean up the animation as much as I wanted. I plan on finishing it up over the break. For now, I am into texturing and lighting. I want to make a Toon shader with a brush stroke look, like in Psyop's 'Norton' commercial. It's not quite there but I hope I can make it work. 16 days to go, yay..
